  1. My point is that it is stupid to perpetuate the myth that somehow a crappy team is magically a major "power" program just because of their conference. Just do us a favor and keep that "mid-major" talk to a minimum. Just like a terrible nickname, the mid-major lable can stick if enough people (even *gag* USF fans) keep throwing it around. Why is that controversial on a USF fan board?
  2. Good point he made here: "Obviously with ESPN as the media partner for the College Football Playoff, I also just wanted to show how important the geography of central Florida is to ESPN's parent company (Disney)," Olszewski said.
  3. The mid-major label for USF football is an insult and simply is not accurate. Not every college football team in a so-called "P5" conference should be anointed as a "major" program just because they happen to be in the Big Whatever Conference. Conference affiliation is certainly not the sole criteria for determining the level of "major" to assign to a program, so can we please dispense with the generalization that USF is a mid-major football program solely because we are in a so-called "G5" conference. I submit that any FBS program in the top 25 is automatically a major program.
  4. That was a good read. It does make it all the more bitter knowing how close USF was to being the subject of all that respect (at least we were mentioned). Hopefully, the theme of this article will spread and college football will wake up to the fortune just waiting to be made by expanding the playoff. Hopefully sooner than later.
  5. Will we ever move past being the tree? https://www.thedailystampede.com/2014/2/13/5408822/dog-and-tree-ii
  6. Walking around Dunham's Sports in Greenville, NC (ECU's town) and this caught my eye. Harvard of the south right next to Harvard of the north. Bottom shelf, but still unexpected.
  7. Check the SOS too. AAC is #5, Big 12 #6. Another myth exposed IMHO. And that's with our terrible SOS (#184) weighing down the conference.
  8. It will be interesting to watch how the sports media deals with this. Will USF suddenly be worth their time? Will they report it as coming from a former "UCF" player? Guess we'll find out soon enough.
  9. I heard the UCF mix-up too (yet again!). I'm sure it was an honest mistake, but you'd think a paid sports commentator from the network that just broadcast our game would be acutely aware of which U from Florida he's talking about and not screw up the name. I doubt anyone at the network, however, gives a flip that it's like nails on a chalkboard to USF fans. We don't deserve that kind of respect from the mighty Egotistical Superior and Pricey Network. Now if we only had an on campus stadium and a conference championship and could beat a team with a pulse, that ESPN dude would be so fired!
  10. Funny to read their emotional rollercoaster. It did sound awfully familiar.
  11. No doubt! At least I learned a new word from the SBNation article that highlighted that photo... "thicc" I assume this trophy will be displayed at USF inside a trophy case with no "rear" visibility. Makes the War on I-4 trophy seem almost normal.
  12. Great wins deserve a great Vulcan trophy. https://www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/college-football/2017/12/23/16814662/usf-texas-tech-birmingham-bowl-final-score-result
  13. Go Army! I am glad San Diego State will not finish 11-2. What a great bowl game too.
  14. This could be posted under various other threads, but the theme seems mostly about CCS. It has good stuff on Q too of course. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/birmingham-bowl-score-quinton-flowers-ends-career-in-style-with-another-thriller/amp/
  15. Point of order... Does Texas Tech classify as "having a pulse?" And more importantly can we ban the word "pulse" from the board?
  16. Highly doubt he audibled to a simple handoff up the middle, which is the call I was referring to.
  17. A South Carolina commit caught himself accidentally committing to South Florida. http://google.com/newsstand/s/CBIwz4bKmjc At least everyone in attendance got a good laugh out of it apparently.
  18. Unfortunately, our bowl opponent this year will not do anything to change this.
  19. I'm thinking the Black Friday game deserves a lot of credit. It had to hype up interest in the AAC Championship game. But most interesting thing I see there is that the G4 combined only managed half the AAC audience. Pretty much confirms there is no G5.
