BULLS EARN TWO SEED IN GAINESVILLE REGIONAL

May 29, 2017
By  USF

TAMPA, MAY 29 2017 – Making its second NCAA regional appearance in three years under head coach Mark Kingston, the University of South Florida baseball team will head to Gainesville as the No. 2 seed.

Also in the regional along with host Florida is three-seeded Bethune-Cookman and fourth-seeded Marist. The Bulls will take on the Wildcats Friday at 1:00 p.m. to open the regional.

The Bulls finished the regular-season and conference tournament with a 41-17 record, as it was the most regular-season wins since 1996. USF was ranked for three-straight weeks inside the top-25 of both the Baseball America and D1Baseball polls, along with other publications such as USA Today. USF finished with the best winning percentage in The American and placed five on all-conference teams.

USF last made a regional in 2015, also in Gainesville. The Bulls won the first game against FAU before dropping the final two. This will be the 12th regional appearance in program history.

The regionals will be played from June 2-5, and the winner will advance to play whoever comes out of the Winston-Salem regional in the super regionals.

We were there for the announcement.  A surprising number of people outside the players but many were staff and coaches (almost the entire basketball staff was there).  Got to talk with CBG for a while early on.  Really like the man.  I know CMK was hoping for the Southern Miss regional but I'm sure he'll be happy to go to Gainesville.  There was almost as loud a cheer when Bethune Cookman was announced as first opponent.  Surprised me a bit.
