I don't if any of you watch the Rays but, if you have, what are your thoughts on the RF Souza?  Seems to me the kid isn't ready for the major leagues.  Seems to struggle on every fly ball (yes, I know the Trop is tough on fly balls) and yesterday he didn't score from 2nd on a double to the wall.  He thought the CF might have a play on it but with one out you go half way.  If he catches it and you go back to 2nd you are still in scoring position.  Just seems like he needs some more seasoning to me.

I really haven't watched all that many total games so this may be deceiving but he does have the most innings of any outfielder and doesn't have a charged error .... for what that's worth.

And are you talking about the one run Rangers game or the Yankees blow out as far as that base running scenario?

his defense and some of the details need some work but he's got a LOT of potential.

went to the game on saturday and he crushed a ball for a 3 run homer, and he was hitting them over the fence in practice off a friggin tee (easier said than done). he crushed that one in toronto too that ended up hitting the sky deck.

he does seem like a guy who should be playing 1st base or something, he's rangy but not super speedy like guyer and kiermeier/jennings.

Believe it was a Yankee game.  Got picked off first again last night.

He's a rookie still. The team is better with him in the lineup. Wil Myers wasn't a great fielder either. Most of the guys on the Rays wouldn't be in the majors if not for injuries or trades.

The real problem for the Rays is at catcher. Might as well have Molina catching if Riveria is only going to hit barely above .100. Amazing all the former Rays catchers that are now playing for other teams - Navarro, Lobaton, Chirinos, Hannigan, Vogt.

Not drafting Buster Posey was the biggest mistake in TB sports history. They probably would have won the Series with him.

I'm happy the Giants ended up with him though if it wasn't the Rays. He's definitely a difference maker. There are starting to transition him to 1st base.

Yeah but Posey came in what, 2010? Not sure he would've singlehandedly gotten them back to a series, but his hitting surely would've/could've helped versus the kryptonite that was the Rangers in those years.

I went last night, Souza bombed another one to deep center. Kid's got a nice stroke and his power is very subtle but effective. But I'm impressed watching him play and he's at least fun to watch. Game last night started out sour, but Rays answered quickly then shut the Yanks down, two games in 5 days = 2 wins...I need to keep going to games!

That transition buys him probably 3-5 more years of playing time without crushing his knees lol.

Rays definitely need a catcher at some point. I thought they would've kept Casali up this year, but somehow kept Bobby Wilson up with Rene, who is essentially a slightly better hitter than Molina, slightly faster, and slightly less frame-able on pitches, so it's about a wash honestly.

Joey Butler has been impressive though in LF

I'm a Giants fan but don't follow as closely as I used to.  The new sometimes catcher is supposed to be pretty good but haven't seen a lot of games.  I've adopted the Rays since moving here and you are right, Butler has been a nice surprise.  I didn't get the Bobby Wilson move either.  I'm not saying Sousa isn't talented, just that he could have used another year in the minors.

seems like the only guy who can hit in the lineup.
