I think the fact that the most disruptive de in the nfl accomplished very little on leavitt's squad says enough. Both coaches leave a lot to be desired.

Could JPP have done more his one year here? Absolutely. You're going to base an overall evaluation of a guy's coaching on one guy? How about Anthony Henry out of the very first recruiting class in USF history?kawika Mitchell? Jr reed? Mike jenkins? Nate allen?

None of the players you mention are on the d line.

Kind of a naïve statement considering Selvie's development from being an unknown 2 star recruit as a Center to one of the leaders in the nation in sacks and TFL and a 2 time, first team All American. Leavitt also put guys like Craig Marshall and Dancing Bear into the NFL. Let's not forget Shurron Piersson.

People forget that before Selvie and that group came along came along, Leavitt was playing with guys that were recruited when we were still 1AA.

Too bad Josh Julmiste was such a screw up. He would have been better than Selvie if he could have stayed out of trouble and played for 4 years.

Last year, playing with Leavitt's recruits, weren't we near the top of the of the nation in sacks and TFL last year Edited by usfgrad84

Most people here haven't been doubting the talent especially on defense. They're all pissed with coaching and in game decisions. Playing soft pass defense. Not getting pressure to qb, etc.

On recruiting its been the Qb issue have not got a big name to actually sign and make it to campus

nice attempt at diverting attention from Holtz and company by trying to make some asinine point about a coach who hasn't been at this school in over 3 years.

It seems like there is still a lot of leavitt love here. It's great that the guy helped lead the program from startup but he n

Was never able to field a balanced team. For instance, in the post Andre hall era, the offensive gameplan was to let Grothe run around. We need to find the coach that will lead this program to greatness and it's clear both these coaches are big drop offs from coaches like Greg Schiano.

My comments had nothing to do with love for Leavitt. Just pointing out the facts of the reality of how this team progressed regardless of who was the coach.

In my opinion comparing the 2006 team to the current team is kind of like an apples and orange comparison. That was the first year that most of the kids that were recruited under a BCS banner started to see the field.

The biggest problem with recruiting back then wasn't actually the quality of the players, it was more the character issues of many of the recruits that led to the unbalanced team. Dismissals and injuries depleted the team of experienced depth. That's why we had to rely so much on Grothe.

We had a lot of quality football players that were dismissed in those days. Josh Julmiste, Jackie Chambers, Amp Hill, Johnny Peyton and Ricky Ponton were all expected to be major contributors as upper classmen in 2006/07. They were all suspended or gone by for much of '06.

Because of Ponton getting suspended and Chad Simpson transferring we started 2006 with no running backs that actually had carried the ball before.

Even in 2007 when we had our best year we had good talent at key positions, but they were all seeing the field for the first time. (Ford, Jamar Taylor, Mo Plancher had about 4 carries of experience and was coming back from ACL).

Imagine how much better and more balanced that team could have been with a 3rd year back in Plancher, a senior Johnny Peyton (who in my opinion is the most talented football player we have ever had here, too bad he was a prima donna that messed up big time), a senior Jackie Chambers, and a senior Ricky Ponton (maybe not the most talented guy we ever had, but as an upper classman would have given Ford time to learn and develop better).

Recruiting of talent has been pretty decent. Integrity in some maybe not so much and it cost us.
