Sarasota end Mayes is Bulls' 2nd weekend commitment

A busy recruiting weekend for USF football has resulted in two commitments to bolster the Bulls' pass rush -- Sarasota Booker's Eric Mayes has joined Clearwater Countryside's Mike Love in committing to sign with USF next month.

Mayes comes in with good size at 6-foot-5, 255 pounds -- he said he chose USF over Mississippi State, Missouri and West Virginia, impressed on his visit with the camaraderie among players and new defensive assistants Eric Mathies and Chuck Bresnahan.

"I liked the players. It was like family for me. I like the new coaching staff as well," Mayes said.

Mayes said he was hosted by rising sophomore end Eric Lee, who made a splash as a true freshman last fall. He and Love will add depth for the Bulls' pass rush, though it's likely they'll redshirt, with starter Tevin Mims back, as well as veterans Ryne Giddins and Julius Forte, as well as Notre Dame transfer Aaron Lynch, who is eligible this fall after sitting out last season.
