Hello?

How is that worse than 0-26?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Ray Perkins

8161846-small_display_image.jpg?1332354889

Years: 1987-90

Overall Record: 19-41

Best Season: 4-11 (1987)

Worst Season: 5-8 (1990)

There have been some terrible runs by Tampa Bay head coaches, everyone from Leeman Bennett to Sam Wyche to Richard Williamson, and even Raheem Morris, most recently.

But Perkins takes the cake.

Not only did he willingly deal away Steve Young and pin his hopes on Vinny Testaverde, and not only did he never win more than five games in a season, but in his first season, Perkins' Bucs experienced two of the worst regular season chokes in NFL history...in the span of three weeks.

In Week 6 they blew a 20-point lead at home to the Bears, losing 27-26, then 15 days later squandered a 25-point, fourth quarter lead to the Buccaneers.

0-26 wasn't the coaches' fault. There was really very little talent on those teams.

0-26 coach was also 10 points away from the Super Bowl in their 4th year of existence. McKay is top 3 .... albeit of a pretty measly bunch.

I didn't realize "our own Vince Lombardi" never won more than 5 games in a season ... That's a pretty good choice.

Expansion teams were not treated the same way as the more recent teams. The Bucs consisted of cast-offs from the other teams.

McKay was an excellent coach.

When McKay was coach, the Bucs college scouts were not allowed to travel west of the Mississippi because Hugh Culverhouse was the cheapest owner in sports. Any decent player left when possible because Hugh Culverhouse was the cheapest owner in sports.

To take that team to three playoff appearances in three years, and be nine points away from a Super Bowl appearance is nothing short of a miracle.

And Ray Perkins was clearly the worst of the bunch, though Leeman Bennett was pretty close.

This. Ray Perkins was definitely the worst coach.
