No, your math isn't right. If you ran the 40 at same speed as a 6.78 60, ignoring anything like acceleration, you'd run a 4.52. It's just division. Still pretty fast ...

I think that you run it faster though because you have less ground to cover so you hold back less. He probably runs a high 4.4... like 4.47-48 maybe better if he trains for it. forty is all about how you come out of the block and how low you stay... If you watch highlights you'll see the best guys keep their heads low and are able to get through about 10 to 20 meters with there head still low and leaning forward...
