From a TV/financial standpoint, this new conference will be huge.

We are now a nationwide conference with teams stretching from the Eastern seaboard to the Western US in major markets across the US. Imagine a Saturday where Big East games will be played from early afternoon all throughout the day until evening when San Diego or Boise State play. That will earn us some big bucks in a new conference TV deal. We could even start our own network and own TV sets from coast to coast.

From a football standpoint, we could actually be better than our previous configuration-- given time. Syracuse and Pitt are teams that continue to run on the fumes of their former glories and are not very good football teams today. WVU is a good team, but Boise State will replace them. UCF, Houston, and San Diego State are teams that could realize their potential being in a BCS conference.

Last, but not least, this could be good for USF. As much as we hate to admit it, UCF is our rival and playing them will put butts in seats. Overall, I think our home attendance will improve when we play teams like Boise State and Navy.

Our BCS tag will also be safe because there is no way the BCS denies Boise State the right to compete in a BCS conference.

This is a huge coup for the Big East.

If you are being negative, get outa here... we've been waiting for news for months, it finally comes, and you are still sour???? DUMB... our academics stink compared to what they should be, we aren't a marquis Big East school... we had to stay and make the most of it (because no one came knocking)... we end up adding a top 10 team ... which the big east has none off... a top 20 team... which the big east has none of... and we add HUGE TV markets in Houston, Dallas, and San Diego. We now have recruiting trips to Texas, Cali, and New Jersey (surprisingly good) which are all top 10 states for BCS recruits according to http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/ncaa/01/21/bcsrecruits.state/index.html for 2004-2008.

And we get to p0Wn the n00b5 @ UCiF

Only one I am mad about is UCF.

Other than that, not bad. Let's see what we can do with it.

With the exception of missing on BYU, I think this is the best we could have hoped for. Now they just need to get the service academies in so that the BCS won't dare to take away the AQ status.

WHY?!... I honestly don't understand what upsets everyone about this... lets just think in the short term here... if you are a recruit... would you want to play for george oleary????

what did yall want out of this? the BE didn't ASK for this. they didn't kick Pitt, Cuse, WVU and TCU out the door. they didn't even want them to leave.

it is the hand they were dealt. considering the circumstances the BE did the best it could. Boise is a perennial Top 25 team. Houston has had success the past couple seasons, missing a BCS bowl by one game this year. SMU has tradition and has been growing. SDSU was necessary as a travel partner for BSU. of course i don't like the UCF invite, especially with the potential NCAA investigations coming (Temple would have been a better choice IMO)...

but they did what they had to do to maintain football relevance and short of adding the Academies immediately or getting BYU (which was their choice to decline) this is as good as it was going to get.

we are basically C-USA on 'roids now, which is better than USF falling down to pre-realignment C-USA on sedatives.

This is a better conference that C-USA on roids... there are no UTEPS... no Marshalls... the teams that came are decent to very good. Houston's offense is explosive - Boise is a top 10 team... get your heads out of your butts and pay attention to how these teams have actually performed.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
