Major Uconn Booster Wants Money Back

Recommended Posts

Guest nybullsfan

Here is a copy of Burton's letter to Jeffrey Hathaway, amongst others (including the Governor of Conneticut).  This letter is a great read and will answer much of your questions.

If I am donating $7million to the football program, I also would expect to be consulted on a new hc hire, not a veto, simply allow me to add my two cents or in this case $7 million.  At the very least not hear the hc hire from others long before I hear it from the AD.  This is a huge loss of the UConn football program, unless another booster is able to step in.

Doesn't change my opinion at all, except to add the adjective "petulant"

:cry2 :cry2 :rainy :rainy :wah :wah

I went back and read the letter. It seems to me like there should have been - if this is how things at that level are run - more inclusion of the Burton family. But wouldn't the AD know that this is how the game is played...schmooze the big donors to keep the check-writin' skills honed to a razor sharp edge? Had I received a letter from Daddy Warbucks saying he wanted inclusion, I would have run it by the AD staff /  selection committee  and made sure there was consultation, not necessarily veto power. Or did this guy know the former 'cuse coach would always be a no vote from the Burtons and chose to skirt the issue?

Regardless...it's much better to have a rich mans problems.

Even though this guy seems like a huge dbag UConn really blew this. They hired a terrible coach and in the process alienated a huge donor.

Sucks for the BE and for UCONN.

Good for USF.

Sure...you can make it Top Secret/NOFORN but once I get it...I decide what happens with it.

Besides...what's a little exposure among friends - and everyone with internet access !

:satan

You gotta admit...on one level this is funny. I would love to hear the armada of attorneys explain how

this 'gift' is ever going to be returned to the donor. Or is this what we refer to as an expensive lesson learned?

So, if I've got $7mil to throw away, and I don't know squat about football, my kid went to another school and either he or the coach wasn't very good ( I suspect both),

I get to help pick the coach?

Money, money, money!
