Today's generation pales in comparison to the generation that experienced Pearl Harbor and fought in WWII.  While the "greatest generation" enlisted in droves to fight the Axis, today's generation just bought yellow ribbon magnets (manufactured in China) and felt they diid their duty.

Seriously, Sept 11th barely registers in importance when compared to Pearl Harbor Day.  Maybe today's narcissist generation feels the opposite, but most of them were not directly impacted by the WTC attacks, and most of them sacrificed nothing after the attacks.

No .. seriously. PISS OFF

I know many who went after the attacks and enlisted.

I know of people who lost family in the 9/11 attacks

You have reached a serious low for posting this.  You have NO right to post this.

We know the importance of Pearl Harbor, and commend and honor those who helped defend the country.

But for you to downplay 9/11 is ludicrous.

You crossed a line here.  Maybe you didn't realize it because of how self-centered you are.  Think about it and post a retraction.   :backtotopic

My crew is planning to recognize the day with a moment of silence and a solemn thank you to those "directly" affected by 9/11.

Just a remember what day gameday is, and fly your flags at half mast (if your pole aint adjustable, we understand), pour one for those lost, and keep them in the back of your mind as you enjoy the BULLS giving the Gators one hell of an afternoon.

When should the flag be flown at half-staff?

A relatively easy way to remember when to fly the United States flag at half-staff is to consider when the whole nation is in mourning. These periods of mourning are proclaimed either by the president of the United States, for national remembrance, or the governor of a state or territory, for local remembrance, in the event of a death of a member or former member of the federal, state or territorial government or judiciary. The heads of departments and agencies of the federal government may also order that the flag be flown at half-staff on buildings, grounds and naval vessels under their jurisdiction.

On Memorial day the flag should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon only, then raised briskly to the top of the staff until sunset, in honor of the nation's battle heroes.

In the early days of our country, no regulations existed for flying the flag at half-staff and, as a result, there were many conflicting policies. But on March 1, 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower issued a proclamation on the proper times.

The flag should fly at half-staff for 30 days at all federal buildings, grounds, and naval vessels throughout the United States and its territories and possessions after the death of the president or a former president. It is to fly 10 days at half-staff after the death of the vice president, the chief justice or a retired chief justice of the United States Supreme Court, or the speaker of the House of Representatives. For an associate justice of the Supreme Court, a member of the Cabinet, a former vice president, the president pro tempore of the Senate, the majority leader of the Senate, the minority leader of the Senate, the majority leader of the House of Representatives, or the minority leader of the House of Representatives the flag is to be displayed at half-staff from the day of death until interment.

The flag is to be flown at half-staff at all federal buildings, grounds and naval vessels in the Washington, D.C., area on the day and day after the death of a United States senator, representative, territorial delegate, or the resident commissioner from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. It shall also be flown at half-staff on all federal facilities in the state, congressional district, territory, or commonwealth of these officials.

Upon the death of the governor of a state, territory or possession, the flag shall be flown at half-staff on all federal facilities in that governor's state, territory or possession from the day of death until interment.

The president may order the flag to be flown at half-staff to mark the death of other officials, former officials, or foreign dignitaries. In addition to these occasions, the president may order half-staff display of the flag after other tragic events.

The flag should be briskly run up to the top of the staff before being lowered slowly to the half-staff position.

Half Staffing: When?

Question: When is the flag half-staffed automatically? Are there certain days when the flag is always half staffed?

Answer: Yes, there are five

1) May 15- Peace Officers Memorial Day: from sunrise to sunset (section 136 of title 36, U.S.C. (Reference (e))

2) Memorial Day- According to the US Flag Code, flags are half staffed until noon only, at which point they are raised to full staff

3) September 11- 911 Display your flag at half staff from sunrise to sunset. On December 18th, 2,001 President Bush signed public law No. 107-89 designating September 11th as Patriot Day. The people of the United States are asked to observe Patriot Day with appropriate programs and activities to honor the individuals who lost their lives. In observance, US flags should be displayed at half-staff from sunrise to sunset. Patriot Day should not be confused with Patriot’s Day, a regional holiday celebrated in New England on the third Monday in April which commemorates Paul Revere's "Midnight Ride" on April 19, 1775 and the battle of Lexington & Concord during the Revolutionary War. The Boston Marathon is run on Patriot’s Day every year.

4) Fire Prevention Week: Sunrise to sunset. It is a tad complex. For Memorial Day and September 11, the legislation includes specific instructions on when to half-staff the flag. With fire prevention week, Public Law 107-51 states: "Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That each year, the American flags on all Federal office buildings will be lowered to half-staff in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service in Emmitsburg, Maryland."

I will try to get this thread back on track.

Normally I drive to the game with four USF car flags on the van - 2 new style in the front windows and two old style in the rear.  Saturday I will place two American car flags in the front windows with two USF flags in the rear.

When two US Flags are flown together, no other flag should be flown with them.

I hope all of you that were offended aren't the same folks that sing "... and the home of the BULLS!" over the national anthem.
