So, if USF goes 6-6 do we loose out on a few, how about if we go 8-4 do we get a 4 or 5 star to pull the trigger.

Nominally at best.  All of this year's class are mostly influenced by previous seasons and are doing most of their research this spring and summer.  You trivialize the decision they're about to make if you think something like going 8-4 can swing a kid's decision.  Now if USF is in a head-to-head battle with a kid and we have a magical 11-1 season and win the BE it may swing a few kids like Andre Davis, Keith Lewis, Max Lang, and Curt Evans to commit...but don't expect James Wilder, Tony Steward, and Mike Blakley to start calling USF on their own, nor expect guys like Story or DeBell to decommit.

A good season will help us with some of the top tier athletes we're currently in on to possibly help win them over, but it won't be the deciding factor nor will it sway other guys to listen to us.  It will help though for future recruits to remember us down the road in subsequent recruiting seasons.  USF will not sign any five star players this year, and it looks like 4 stars (depending on which website or ranking your using) could be unlikely this year.  The only likelihood could be Brandon Fulse, or a JUCO this year.  Remember there is no magic elixir to recruiting, Skip came in and faced the same difficulties Leavitt did when he was here.  Leavitt was a good recruiter but doing it at USF is tougher than most realize.

Would being in the SEC or ACC improve our recruiting capabilities?

Absolutely...and drastically at that.
