Mr.Steinbrenner was also a huge gator fan imagine that. He was a Bullgator and now has a new band complex named after him on gaytors campus. Wow! He was always a good friend to uf."Steinbrenner was also a longtime Bull Gator, the highest level of contributors to the UF athletic program, and over the years made donations to the athletic program ranging from television sets to stadium lights."   http://www.gainesville.com/article/20100714/ARTICLES/7141004

Yankee owner ... Bull Gator .... George made it really hard for me to like him but respected him for what he accomplished and did for USF.

This is true you have a good point and he was a good man.

His son went to UF. I'm guessing that had something to do with it.

<a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dailypolitics/2010/07/rush-limbaughs-mind-boggling-t.html">Here</a> is what Rush Limbaugh had to say about George Steinbrenner:

"That cracker made a lot of African-American millionaires."

Not supporting Rush, but he was responding to a black activitist that referred to Steinbrenner as a Cracker who used black players, now, in that context this seems a little different doesn't it.

My favorite experience with GS.  I was a guest in the suite next to his at Legends field for a spring training game.  He was sitting outside, one row behind the seats we were in outside our suite.  The guy on the inside got up, and instead of making the other 3 stand up, stood up on the seat to jump one row back.  George says to him " Hey, buddy, do I come to your house and walk across your sofa"  The only response, "sorry Mr. Steinbrenner"  we all died laughing.

I have heard this story before somewhere?

It is one of my faovrite stories, I do mention it often...
