MikeG is right in that we have to take account for the economy being a factor. The positive that I see in promoting Canales is that most of the players are going to stay and the recruiting class wont change much. Canales knows this program since he was one of the first staffs put together. He would be loyal to this program now that he is the head coach.  He is well respected by his players. I think there are a lot of positives if he gets the job.

I dont think it would be the worse thing ever. If Canales does not get the job done than he is gone in a few years. By then, USF should have more candidates to take over the job if Canales does not work out.

WTF?  Is that a prison term?  Something akin to "tossed salad"?  Where were you incarcerated: Apalachee, Starke, Baker, ........?  :D

A couple thoughts about interviewing Canales and Franks.  The people leading the search do not know the details of the football program.  Interviewing Franks (the recruiting coordinator) and Canales (organizer of the usf slin n shoot - one of the largest 7-on-7 tournaments) allows the selection committee to obtain information they can use in other interviews.  If done right, they will be better armed to ask detailed questions pertinent to usf football not just football in general.
