I was watching a high school game a little earlier and this big guy on defense was interviewed and said he decided to choose USF. I have no idea what his name was but they said he's 6'6 and weighs 320, so I'm assuming this is good news!

The al miss. All star game was today in mobile.  Was he in that?  If so, he's good.  Most guys in this game go to big time schools.

He is a giant and exactly what we needed.  The concern with him is he collapsed at school this year and was rushed to the hospital. He had to have surgery to put a tube in his heart or something like that.  His life and football career were in danger for a while and the big boys like Bama and Auburn in that area backed off.  We stuck with him.  Supposedly, he has been cleared to play again. So we may be getting a steal here.  The other concern is when you recruit the Mobile area is grades and test scores.  Hopefully, we can get him on campus.

If he is healthy, and his grades/test scores are ok, then we have ourselves a huge SEC style OT.  Exactly what we needed.

Yes. And he chose USF on national TV during that game.  Great exposure.  It would be nice if we could start making some headway in recruiting in Alabama. We really need to start expanding our recruiting base outside the state of FL.

Prep notebook:

By Josh Bean

Eatmon said he began having occasional heart-related episodes -- when his heart would race, causing profuse sweating, dizziness and blurry vision -- at age 12, but they increased to several times a day this fall. He collapsed at school and missed several weeks of action before having a procedure to cure his ailment.

The big lineman returned to the field and had no problems in the final weeks of the season.

"Nothing has happened since then," he said.

Recruit Quinterrius Eatmon of Vigor plans football return despite heart ailment

MOBILE, Ala. -- Vigor High lineman Quinterrius Eatmon will undergo a heart procedure later this week to repair a defect, and he said today that he expects to return to action last this season.

He returned to school today.

Eatmon, a 6-foot-7, 330-pounder who is being recruited by numerous Division I schools, missed last week's game against St. Paul's after collapsing at school on Friday morning. He spent Friday and Saturday at a local hospital, but said he learned that his cardiac problems should not end his football career.

"That's a relief -- a big relief," Eatmon said.

Eatmon will travel to Birmingham this week for a procedure to repair his heart defect, which he as an "extra pathway" in his heart. It will be repaired with a catheter, meaning doctors will not need to open his chest and perform surgery.

Vigor coach Kerry Stevenson said Eatmon should miss about 7 days after the procedure, meaning the lineman could return in time for the Oct. 23 home game against LeFlore.
