Sheriff and others eating crow this season with Jose getting the girls to play up to their potential. I hope to eat some more crow with RMC. I've always liked Jose... but when you have a good friend that played here, you tend to side with the player over the coach when problems arise. Here's hoping both have successful futures! Guest HowieP1
Game story:USF Women’s Hoops Defeats Army, 82-58, For Third Straight Win Tampa, FL (Nov. 24, 2004) – The USF women’s basketball team jumped out to a 12-3 lead just six minutes and 30 seconds into the game and never looked back en route to an 82-53 win over Army Wednesday night in the Bulls’ home opener at the Sun Dome.It was USF’s first home game after starting the season with four on the road in eight days.“I was glad to come home,†said USF head coach Jose Fernandez. “It was our home opener and at times we did a pretty good job defensively. But we didn’t defend the three-point shot very well tonight and we didn’t defend the three-point line. At times we didn’t close out with hands. (Army’s) Jen Hansen had a very good game and they ran her off of staggers all night. We have to go back and work on that kind of stuff because that’s the kind of stuff we’re going to have to defend when conference play starts.â€ÂChanae Early (Atlanta, GA) led three players in double figures with a career-high 20 points on 7-12 shooting from the field and 4-8 from three-point range. She was also 2-2 from the charity stripe. “We brought her (Early) in, and in the last two years we’ve signed a junior college guard off of a junior college national championship team,†said Fernandez. “Anedra (USF’s Anedra Gilmore) picked up two fouls and she came in - Chanae’s more of a scoring threat. She’s the first off of the bench. She comes in and has to give us a scoring punch, and she did that.â€ÂJessica Dickson (Ocala, FL) and Nalini Miller (Capital Heights, MD) would add 17 and 16 points, respectively.USF (4-1) shot a blistering 57.6 percent (19-33) and used its athleticism to force 11 turnovers in the first half while only giving up the ball four times. The “Green and Gold†would take advantage of the Black Knights’ miscues, netting 13 points off the mistakes. The Bulls would take a 43-28 lead into the locker room at the half.USF would not let up in the second half and would eventually lead by as many as 30 points (80-50) with 3:12 left in the game.On the night, the Bulls would shoot an impressive 55.9 percent (33-59) from the field and hold Army to just 29.8 percent (17-57) from the floor.Ezria Parsons (Bushnell, FL) shared team-high rebounding honors with Miller, grabbing eight apiece. Miller was two rebounds shy of a double-double, for the third time this season, with her 16 points on the night.Army (1-2) was led by former Seminole High School standout Jen Hansen with 21 points and seven rebounds in the loss. The Bulls will be back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they face St. Francis (NY) in the first round of the Best Western Roundball Classic at the Sun Dome. Eastern Michigan and Niagara with play in the other first round matchup at 5 p.m. The consolation game and championship games will be played Sunday at noon and 2 p.m.http://gobulls.usf.edu/Sports/News.asp?i=1159&s=Basketball
