ACC improves deal with Champs Sports Bowl; will send No. 3 team to Orlando

The Champs Sports Bowl has re-upped its affiliation with the ACC but will now get the league's No. 3 team, an improvement over the current contract.

The bowl's expiring deal with the ACC has the No. 4 team coming to Orlando. The new deal is effective starting with the 2010 season.

The ACC team will play the No. 2 team from the Big East, replacing the Big Ten. Notre Dame also is included in the deal.

The bowl will be allowed to select the Irish just once in the four-year period, provided they have a 7-5 record or better and are within 2 wins of the No. 2 Big East team.

The game will continue to be played in its usual late December slot at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

Florida Citrus Sports officials feel this new partnership puts them in fantastic position at having one of the best games during bowl season.

This bowl basically replaced the Gator for BOTH the Acc and BE.

Another consolation bowl close to home for us lol. Looks like this is how it will play out for us most years...

Great Season = BCS

Good Season = Champs

WTF Happened = St. Pete

:D

That would be awesome, if we consistently hit a bowl every year. My version of WTF Happened is us sitting at home watching UCF in the St. Pete bowl. THAT would suck!

THIS IS GREAT!!

The Champs Bowl is a GREAT bowl game.  Glad to know we have a BOWL close to home now, thats established and not an Inaugural Bowl.

I will be happy when we can win a NON-inaugural bowl game.  Sheesh!

GOOOOO BULLS!!!

Correct, those are "our" bowls, with once in a while PJ.com sprinkled in.

We haven't heard what the new payout will be, but it should go up significantly, since it upgraded it's conference tie ins from last time.  Also, FYI, the Yankee Bowl pays 2M for a BE team (just read that today), and wouldn't be suprised to see the MCC be at 1.5 to 2M to keep pace.  They paid WVU 1.7M last year based on ticket sales, even though the gaurantee was only 1 M.

Niiiccceee... I like the Champ because it allows us to save some money and still go to a decent bowl.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
