I don't think (at least I hope) that any USF fans really see us as one of the top 3 PROGRAMS in the state. We are a part of the Big 3 for the 2009 season, but for historical purposes, we aren't on their level (obviously). HOWEVER, we're getting there and last Saturday was a sign of us taking the next step and putting pressure on the traditional Big 3 in Florida. As Canales said, "Sky's the limit".

im tired of hearing "upset" and "that wouldnt happen again" type arguments.

Anyone who said that wouldn't happen again wasn't watching the game.  Give BJ another start or two and it would have been an old-fashioned barn burning blow-out.  Physically, on both sides of the ball, FSU was completely pwned.

Some people here may be salty, but when it comes to a lot of that, he's right.

This win only means as much as what we do the rest of this season.  Also FSU, UM, and UF did not become big three by beating up on each other, they got that status by beating up on their conference (and other great programs for the schools that were independents) year in and year out.   We will never be truly on their level till we get some hardware of our own, that's what truly lets program take that next step in their development.

With all that said we went into FSU's house and physically dominated them for 60 minutes straight so the gap is obviously closing but we need win the BE to make a true gain on them.

I used this comparison it in another thread...

Beating FSU and Miami will get us in the clubhouse, but we need a Big East title and/or a BCS trophy to get to sit at the table.

Where has FSU and UM been the past 2-3 years??? Sure the Bulls don't have the history of those teams. But USF has been more competitive the last 2 years. When the debate came up about the supposedly Big Four. Jim killed that with the "We can't be mention as part of a big three til we beat one of them." We'll, hear we are. Where do we unpack.

It must really stick in this guy's craw that Leavitt will have BRAGGING RIGHTS OVER FSU FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS and nothing he writes will change that fact. LOL

So would you say Marshal is an elite program?  How about Syracuse?

I don't completely disagree with what you are saying, but right now in the state of Florida I think there are three tiers of D-1A football with a tremendous difference between each tier.  College football isn't about what you did in 1999, 1989 or 1879.  It is about where your program is and where your program is going.  USF has clearly put themselves on par with FSU and UM - and not just because of the win over FSU this year, but a culmination of things leading up to the win.

Tier 1: UF

Tier 2: USF, FSU, Miami

Tier 3: FAU, UCF, FIU

Its week 4 of the season let's slow down before we make any definitive judgment on this team's true direction.  We are a mid season swoon away from being stuck in idle as our standing in our conference.  You speak about results look at our results in conference play, that is the true measure of a program not winning some pretty OOC games once or twice a year.  The gap is closing, and as someone said earlier we are in the clubhouse, but we are still a little ways from sitting at the table.  We may have been a better team for one year (anything else is just pure conjecture what happens when you line up and play is all that matters) but a program is bigger than the last couple of seasons it's the same reason why Michigan still pulls top level kids even though they appeared to be moving in the wrong direction.  There is a huge difference between the team and the program, and the big 3 is about your program, your resources in $$$, the talent pool you pull from (FSU's and UM's are much deeper with top level recruits) , fan support, draft picks, and of course those accomplishments that make that all tangable to donors, recruits, bandwagoners, etc.  Without those trophies and all that stuff you seem to think is useless those claims are just smoke and mirrors, just look at UCF to see that.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
