But will you stay in St. Pete hotels, eat in their restaurants, and go see some of their other attractions (i.e., spend tons of moola to pump up the local economy)?  I thought that's what bowls are really about.

I think St. Pete will get far more money from the 25,000 USF fans at the game than the 1500 Rutgers fans that come down from New Jersey.

The local economy is a secondary issue for the Bowl games.  First and foremost is ticket sales.  This game will not sell out without USF or UCF in it.  St. Pete will get local revenue from the CUSA representative.

at least it will keep travel costs down for the team.  this will come in handy when/if we win and get a lousy $10k paycheck.

Not really.

From what I remember...

1) All bowl money is pooled and then re-divided by the Big East based on where teams finish. Including the BCS money.

2) The Big East covers travel costs.

Well unless UCiF comes out swinging they will be lucky to break .500 against in conference opponents...

Most likely we will play against...

1.) East Carolina

2.) Tulsa (Will win conference but if they slip up they may have to go to St. Pete)

3.) Marshall

4.) Memphis

i think they created this bowl game with us in mind... these bowl people are smart.. and they know we will always finish 8-4 or 9-3.. they know we'll travel there (obviously)

Or finish 7-5 or 6-6 - been there before.

ESPN has either Houston or UTEP coming to town.  I would surmise an eastern C-USA team, primarily ECU, Marshall, or UAB or Southern Miss if they can turn it around, are who the bowl organizers had in mind when the made the conference match-up.

Wahoo!

Another home game!

I am pumped, this will be another unexpected tailgate close to home.

Cheer up. It is still a bowl and the place will be packed!

Let's go TROP!

And we get the "Inaugural St. Pete Bowl" t-shirts.  What's the over/under on how many years this bowl lasts?

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
