Maybe the coaches found out BJ isn't the final solution and are scrambling to recruit someone that can eventually take over.

BJ may be nothing but a perennial back-up.

I doubt that, Leavitt doesnt really put up smoke screens ala John Gruden.

Wouldnt mind if he did, helped gruden get a superbowl

Here's my take on B.J. and part of the problem with the offense.

If B.J. RS then that would make Eugene Smith, the only QB I think we're going after, not want to come to USF becasue he would have to wait even that much longer. Since we only have a true 1st team when it comes to QB's then I can understand this. Another take is that we do still have 6 games left so there is a chance for B.J. to play more and maybe CJL wants him to truly challenge Grothe for the starting spot next season. Or it was all just one BIG mistake and it's now biting the team in the butt.......I really don't know  ;D

if he doesn't redshirt that would actually mean less time for the next QB to have to wait.

If Geno Smith pans out to be the QB he's hyped up to be... he shouldn't have many issues dethroning the starting QB after Grothe.

Geno >  BJ

Running a team only 2 deep on QBs isnt smart either.

That might be the best answer right there.

Not really...we have Evan Landi, too.

He's perfectly capable for a 3rd team QB.

3rd team QB hardly ever sees the field.  So why waste a year of Daniels' eligibility for 10 or 20 minutes of mop-up duty??

I didn't know perfectly capable meant true freshman that never took a snap...

I guess that makes all of us perfectly capable too...

Look down the rosters of all the teams in 1-A, and I can assure you that you will find PLENTY of THIRD STRING QB's who have never taken a snap.

It's a 3RD STRING QB.

Also known as "Emergency QB."

A warm body is perfectly capable to fill that role.

So long as your 1st string QB doesn't get injured.  With the amount of running Grothe does and how long he holds onto the ball before he throws it's likely he could get injured.  It's risky not to have a 3rd string with some experience.

This is true...but back to the point being debated, Daniels doesn't give you more experience than Landi.

Coming in to this season, they were both true freshmen.

Landi has just as many snaps as Daniels....ZERO.

Why not plan on redshirting Daniels and using Landi as your emergency QB?

Because, even though he's been a pleasant surprise, Landi may be very far away from benig a D1 QB.  Alton Voss was going to be the #3 guy and he was nowhere near ready.

So was Pat Julmiste...and he STARTED for us for the better part of three seasons.

Thank goodness we've moved past that then.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”
