They said on FSN that the division tie-breaker is the season series.  There is no one-game playoff.  So since the rays won the series, they will win the division if both teams finish with the same record.

there would only be a 1 game playoff if the season series was tied.  if the Red Sox would of won tonight the season series would of been tied, hence a 1 game playoff.

i thought you knew everything there was to know about baseball.

you're wrong again, the tie-breaker is:

1. Season series

2. Division record

3. Second half record vs. AL teams

Unless todd kalas is completely wrong.  But he knows his stuff.

And if they were still tied after those three, it would have been up to a coin flip... which the Red Sox won, meaning it would have been in Fenway.  Good thing the Rays won tonight and it won't get that far.

There is no one game play off between two teams that are both going to the playoffs. If it is a matter between playoff berth or no playoff berth, then it is a one game playoff.... I think.

I bellieve there'd have to be a one game playoff between two teams already going if it came down to it to determine division winner and home field advantage ...

nope... just for two teams vying for a wild card spot or missing post season.

I'm hopelessly confused .... What are the tiebreakers for division champs?
