special teams is definetely an issue...

but i think route running, catching and ball security in the run game are also issues i hope the coaching staff addressed in the offseason.

it is a third of the game and if yopu can excel at it you will have some great wins and avoid embarassing losses

Last year when we were the team to beat we didn't adjust to the different game plans you face as the favorite .....punt fakes field goal fakes, all of that crap.

WE used to be the one that pulled all that crap. I think it was kinda like a slap in the face--a wake up call. Now, we are the targets. Can't forget that this season.

well i liked what i saw when they announced that the special teams was broken up among different coaches.  in years  past it has been leavitt that was the only one overseeing it.  i cant imagine he had too much time to work on every little detail....maybe like defending the FAKE FG!

It's a third if you simply name three facets of the game, but it's about a 10-20th when you consider the percentage of the actual game.  So no college team will ever be able to practice special teams enough, not with the rigid practice schedule required by the NCAA.  Therefore, I've always felt if you can limit the negative plays on special teams in college, that's 90% of the work.  Some of it last year for USF was mental- FG kicker- that's on Alvarado; stop the fake conversions- we had most covered but guys didn't make plays.
