He signed what's called a "future contract." It's a contract for next season when the current season isn't over yet. Hall signed with Denver in January 2007, at which time the 2006 season was not yet completed. These sort of deals go to practice squadders, NFL Europe guys, and other longshots. So I seriously doubt that it's for more than one year.

And even if it were a multi-year deal, that means very little in the NFL. Contracts aren't guaranteed. A team can release a player after one year of a multi-year deal, and not owe him any salary. (Only the signing bonus is guaranteed.)

This is Hall's first accrued season in the NFL as best I can tell, and an NFL team has a player's exclusive rights until the end of his third year. He then would be a restricted free agent, meaning the team can tender him a one-year contract and either match any offer from another team or receive draft picks as compensation, depending on the level of the tender. A player isn't an unrestricted free agent until after his fourth accrued season.

Basically, if Denver wants him, they have his rights for at least two more years.
