regardless....the big east is going to always be looked at as the weakest BCS conference.  we went 5-0 in our bowls last year and what did that get us heading into this season?  still all the doubt were there.  we dont have the national powerhouses that the other conferences have.  good win for WVU but the Big east is still gonna be the little dog in the fight.  however, we are head and shoulders above the next conference in line.

why are we head and shoulders above non-bcs conf WAC, MWC?

The other thread was locked because no longer discussed the game but attacks on other posters.

most of us were discussing the game and the impact on the program.  analysis (and criticism) of the team, its coaches and its performance is legitimate topic of discussion.

it's a shame that one bad apple can go into a thread and flame and hurl personal attacks and get it shut down for the rest.

it's also a shame that anyone who looks OBJECTIVELY at their team is bombarded with insults.

that said, to stay on-topic, the Big East wouldn't need "redemption" if we all had coaches that could keep their players focused the way WVU's interim coaches did tonite.

they did a phenomenal job, and once again held the weight of the BE on their shoulders.  one day i hope it's USF beating BCS schools in their bowl game.

NBE is 3-0 in BCS games. Rutgers win will put the conference at 3-2.

yep..  WVU's wins over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl and Oklahoma in the Fiesta are cornerstones in the league's BCS-bowl performances since the realignment.  Louisville's win over Wake was good, but (right or wrong) Wake doesn't hold the same weight as UGA or OU.

SEC champs, ACC champs and BXII champs have gone down to the BE champs over the past 3 years.

nobody can say the Big East is the "weakest" conference without also admitting that those conference champs were weak as well.

I didn't see a single pre-season publication that ranked the big east as the weakest conference coming into this season.  I doubt you will find many, if any, that will say that going into next year.  The ACC will be ranked below the Big East by just about everyone.  Depending on what Ohio State does next Monday I think you will find many putting Big East above Big Ten.  Point is convincing OOC wins and bowl wins do make a huge difference.

very true.

its all perception.

i dont think theres ONE conference that is the best or ONE that is the worst.

the Big Televen hurt itself this year by either losing its OOC games (Michigan to App St/Oregon, Illinois to Mizzou, etc.) or not scheduling any that were worth a crap (Ohio State).

the Big East had as impressive OOC wins this year as any conference... USF over Auburn, Cinci over Oregon State, WVU over MSU and now Oklahoma.  UConn played Virginia tight and should have beat Wake.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
