Read down on the link, and you will see Texas Tech struggling with the ticket sales because of the distant travel. USF would have at least got 10k there without a doubt. Hopefully, they will learn not to make this kind of mistake down the road. http://www.dailymail.com/Sports/200712140732
WoolyBully Posted December 15, 2007 Group: Bull Backers Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 6,786 Reputation: 864 Days Won: 3 Joined: 08/01/2000 Share Posted December 15, 2007 ...IN ITS desire to save its remaining chance at taking independent Notre Dame as a Big East bowl spot qualifier in 2008 or '09, the Gator Bowl really gambled this season - and probably lost. The Gator really wanted a match up of Texas against ticket-selling Clemson or Virginia Tech and couldn't land that. Now, the Jacksonville, Fla., game has Texas Tech and Virginia - two teams that have combined to sell only about 13,000 of their combined allotments of 26,250 tickets. The Gator has a Big East/ND or Big 12 option in its selection process. It says here the Gator could have taken home-state South Florida from the Big East and done big business, but the game wants to save its Big East pick, longing for the Fighting Irish. Will ND be good enough next year to land a Gator spot? It's unlikely. That means the game is gambling on one season (2009) to get what it wants. Which pretty much underscores the power of Notre Dame. Doesn't matter when...doesn't matter where. You invite ND to your bowl game and the tickets will be sold and the fans will be in the stands. Don't you really think the whole purpose behind the 'Big East' tie was JUST to get to Notre Dame? And, not being mean now, in the event that next seasons Irish success is on par with this seasons.... :ROFLMAO

Guest
The more interesting part of the article is the Car Care Bowl's hard on for U Conn...HOW DID Connecticut get a Muffler Bowl spot in Charlotte, N.C., ahead of Cincinnati (headed to the "No-Anchovies Bowl") in the Big East pecking order this season? Well, you'll hear that it's because the Huskies tied WVU for the title ... but there's history at work there, too.See, in 2004, the then-Tire Bowl was primed (and all-but-promised) to take 7-4 UConn, in its first Big East season, when Syracuse won at Boston College in a stunner on the season's final weekend - leaving the league with a four-way tie for the title. So, Pitt got the BCS berth in the Fiesta (and throttled by Utah) and WVU went to the Gator and lost to Florida State. The Big East said its titlists had to be taken care of by the bowls before fifth-place UConn, so BC - a notorious non-seller of bowl tickets - went to Charlotte. The league got an available Champs Sports Bowl berth for the other title-tied team, Syracuse (which was routed by Georgia Tech), and UConn went to Detroit and ripped Toledo in the Motor City Bowl.Cincinnati and UConn are both 9-3 (as is Sun Bowl-bound USF) and the Bearcats won the head-to-head 27-3, but the Huskies' Charlotte trip is a bit of a payback for what didn't happen in 2004, when Big East football was betwixt and between in the wake of the ACC's grab of three teams. They wanted U Conn in 2004... the Big East made them take BC... They wanted U Conn in 2005... but the Huskies couldn't be bowl eligible, so they settled for USF...They couldn't get U Conn in 2006... but had a deal with Navy anyway...They finally get U Conn in 2007...
