Athletic Administration/boosters...well...let's be a touch flexible on that. "At his introduction as the Panthers new athletic director on Friday, Steve "puff, puff, give" Pederson gave Wannstedt his vote of confidenceand a hit off the proverbial peace pipe." There's nothing stopping Pitt from giving DW an extension and then firing him less than a year into it. That's what happened with Bill Callahan at Nebraska.Sounds like somebody sold Pederson, or Pederson sold his bosses, on the "we need coaching stability for recruiting season" line. Apparently, Pitt doesn't realize that the problems with its football program extend far beyond recruiting.

GarySJ Posted December 1, 2007 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 2,661 Reputation: 0 Days Won: 0 Joined: 07/14/2000 Share Posted December 1, 2007 I don't think schools care about putting out the $$$ to dump the sucker. I think schools have bought into the "coaching instability hurts recruiting" line. It's become necessary to give contract extensions to struggling coaches, just so their recruiting doesn't suffer. Buying out a bum coach only costs a few hundred grand, but a dead recruiting class hurts the program for years. Or so goes the thinking. I'd love to see a cost-benefit analysis on that.
