There were a couple of threads asking for players other than Grothe to step up and make a plays. It can be hard for the other players  to step up if they are infrequently involved with the offense.  As much as I like Grothe I think too much of the offense is based on his success.  The RBs and WRs need more touches to be successful.  I am a big believer in numbers since they seldom lie. This is how USF compares to Oregon which has a similar style of offense.

Can USF improve its offfensive output if the ball is taken out of Grothe's hands?

USF should do a better job at getting the ball out of Grothe hands not only to protect him but to improve the offense. The RBs and WRs need to get more touches. I would like to see more short passes to the WRs and non-option runs to the RBs. Also when the pocket breaks down Grothe should take less time scrambling east and west and take off down the field.  Not only will Grothe's rushing numbers improve but it will reduce the number of 2nd and 3rd and longs. Which would help to sustain better drives down the field and keep the defense fresh.

lol.

i love the threads on this forum...  they're all over the place!

one minute it's "our receivers drop the ball too much!"

the next it's "Grothe needs to get the receivers the ball!"

i mean, which one is it?

not to mention, alot of Grothe's rushing numbers come from scrambles on broken plays when there isn't a receiver open.  sometimes he doesn't see them, but sometimes they really aren't open, so he runs.  whose fault is that?

"numbers don't lie," but interpretations of those numbers often do.

Also if he does get the receivers the ball, that is a pass attempt and his overall percentage in the offense does not change.
