BCS computers starting to report

Recommended Posts

USF needs both of the remaining polls to be #1 to get the full 1.00 BCS points... if Wolfe or Anderson-Hester have USF lower than 1st place, it could hurt USF's chances in the overall BCS rankings.

If you look at the computers, they have Rutgers #42.

That is not good.  We can't lose this game.

So if we got all #1 for the remaining and get the 1.00 BCS points, does our ranking change despite the Coaches and Harris poll?

Well --- you got Ohio State # 1 in two-thirds of the formula.

Ohio State is going to be number one unless their computer ranking is in the toilet.

It could be though.

some of the computers have the buckeyes 7th.

How ironic is that?  South Florida is # 1 because of the objective computers.

OSU doesn't have 2/3 of the #1's yet.

Harris poll isn't out, or is it?

1/3 - Coaches - OSU #1, USF #3, BC #2

1/3 - Harris - ?

1/3 - Computers - USF #1, OSU #6, BC #3- still not all computers reported

So far, we have a better average... but I'm guessing harris will have it OSU 1, BC 2, USF 3

Then the averages would put

USF 7/3 = 2.333

OSU 8/3 = 2.666

BC 7/3 = 2.333

USF & BC tied for #1

OSU #2

Is my math way off?

So far, USF #1, Ohio State at #6, and Southern Cal at #23. Crazy how objective polls view these teams.

The BCS doesn't work in whole numbers. OSU may be No. 1 in the polls, but the Buckeyes don't get a full point unless they are a unanimous No. 1. Their actual score for the coaches poll, for example, is .997, because they have 99.7 percent of the possible points. They have a .998 from the Harris Poll.

In the computers, you take the score (25th = 1 point .... 1st = 25 points) of the four CPUs (dropping the highest and lowest of the six), add it up and divide by 100. Using the four we have, OSU has .840 for the computers. You add those three numbers and divide by three, giving Ohio State a BCS score of .945.

USF's is .880 for the Harris, .880 for the coaches poll and .980 for the computers (again, using the four we have so far), meaning a BCS score of .913 for the Bulls.

For Boston College I get .880 for the computers, .922 for the coaches and .930 for the Harris, meaning a BCS score of .910.

Again, this could swing when we get the last two computers. But I see Ohio State first, USF a distant second and Boston College close behind at third.

I imagine we will be higher on the computer rankings simply by looking at who we have played, versus OSU who has had a free pass on the schedule till now.

We have to win EVERY game, Rutgers is key, because it is next, but every game is crucial.
