from Greg's blog

Something to cheer about

Not to harp on the scorelessness, but the biggest cheers so far just came with a minute left in halftime, as new basketball coach Stan Heath was introduced, along with his wife Ramona and their younger son, Josh. Lots of cheers for Heath, who is all business this weekend as he entertains a high school recruit, 6-foot-8 forward Orane Chin of Miramar, formerly of Miami Dr. Krop. Chin earned first-team all-state honors after averaging 25 points and 14 rebounds at Miramar. He's also considering Massachusetts

Looks like Heath is already getting higher profile kids looking at the Bulls. If we land Chin and Bush that would be a great get for a late period recruiting.

I wouldn't say it's a higher profile kid -- Chin has been a possibility for USF for quite some time. He was at Miami Dr. Krop last year (where he played with Bulls walk-on Jared Rubens) and USF's coaches were well aware of him before he transferred to Miramar.

There is no way he is 6'8.  Chris Howard is at MOST 6'3... probably 6'2.

Maybe the picture is deceiving, but I only see about an inch or two difference.

Guest BasketBull.

Any physics/math major on here? Can we get a distance ratio to size calculation going?

As someone with a philosophy background, I can only offer this as a rely: It's not how tall you are that's important, but it's how tall you play.  ;D

Distance Ratio thing might be pertinent if Orin was BEHIND Howard... but howard looks just as big and he is further away!  that means Howard looks smaller in comparison than he really is.

The answer to this is pretty simple. The playing field at RayJay is crowned, sloping away from the center of the field. Obviously, Howard is standing on the higher part of the pitch and Chin the lower part... that or we're trying to recruit a 6' small forward.   ;)

Chris Howard must be on stilts.

Chin is not standing up straight.  His back is swayed and his head is down a little.  If Howard is 6'-3" tall, then I would guess Chin to be 6'-7" or 6'-8".
