Not something to be taken lightly.... they don't call it the 'silent killer' for nothing.

High Blood Pressure Forced Selmon To Resign AD Post

By BRETT McMURPHY

Published: May 27, 2004

TAMPA - Former Bucs great and Pro Football Hall of Famer Lee Roy Selmon said he resigned as South Florida's athletic director in February because of high blood pressure.

Selmon initially took a six- week sabbatical Jan. 12 for what his brother Dewey Selmon told The Tampa Tribune was ``heart'' and ``stress-related'' problems.

``I'm doing great, feeling real good physically,'' Selmon told WTVT, Channel 13, on Wednesday. ``We just had that little bump in the road that required some sitting back and thinking.

``I think we all do that from time to time and [evaluate] our health situations and make sure we're doing things that can provide us a good quality of life physically for a long period of time.''

Selmon said his wife, Claybra, heavily influenced his decision to step down as USF's AD.

``She could tell some things were going on with myself,'' Selmon said. ``As we got into this, we sat down and prayed about it together as to what should we do.''

Upon resigning as USF's AD on Feb. 26, Selmon said his new job as president of the USF Foundation Partnership for Athletics would allow him to work at a ``little less stressful pace.''

No hypertension isn't something to take lightly, but once diagnosed it can be successfully treated.  Thank goodness.   :)

Was that when you were with your buddy in the muscle shirt Smazza? I remember reading something about a football game and two men hanging with LRS... memories...
