Good Bye Rod Smith, HELLO OFFENSE!!! No Rod Smith was just the target when things didn't go this team's way. The offense showed signs of life and actually looked good at parts of the season so now it's the talent. However people still need that target, and Rod was right there. OF COURSE IT HELPS TO HAVE TALENT...but it takes a coach to mnake the correct gameplan when using a RS Freshman QB and when limited at RB... :

Guest Ari_Hinkelberger
The guy goes 9-4 -- 6-6 -- beats the #9 and #5 ranked teams in the country.Beats Rutgers on the road. Beats Cuse on the road. Beats Pitt at home and should have beaten them on the road in 05. Coaches one of the top RB's in the leauge in 05 -- probably the top freshmen QB in the country in 06 and gets Zero love on this board. To coach a team to 6-6 with Pat Julmiste air mailing recievers day in and day out has to be one of the best coaching jobs I have seen.He was Offensive Coordinator for 2 years and went 15-10 -- and 9-4 in his second year.Amazing that you guys continue to dump on this dude. Now wonder he left. The guy is 33 or so years old and is one of the bright young assitants int he country. If he wasn't good, Rodriguez - who coaches one of the most potent offesnses in the country wouldnt have tried to get him to come back and coach his All-American QB.You guys have so little sports sense some times. Guest Ari_Hinkelberger
How can anyone on this board forget the BRILLIANT play calling when Louisville came to Ray Jay in 05.It was the win that put us on the map essentially. And anyone that doesn't give Rod Smith 80% of the credit for that game is just out to lunch. He was a great coach. I don't care what anyone says. That win against lousiville probably landed us 10 more stud recruits.

Yes the offense stunk last year, but it was vastly improved this year. Give the man his due.
Guest Ari_Hinkelberger
I agree Texas. Give him some credit. Always punching Rod Smith. He was actually good. I will however say that the call at the 2 yard line in the UCONN game in 05 were pretty awful. The quick QB sneak and then the QB throw back -- bad calls..But I blame most of our problems in 05 on PJ. He was terrible.
