I expect us to be in a bowl game each year and as we build prestige our down years will be going to a bad bowl game like FSU and Miami.

Unfortunately, ET, all teams see down years occassionally.

See Nebraska under Tom Osborne or Florida State under Bobby Bowden... both with 25+ straight bowl games...

But I agree with your post that for such teams, a 'down year' doesn't negate a bowl appearance
