Most would agree that UM's and FSU's recruit classes over the past five or six years have been rated in the top fifteen or better.

Most would also agree our recruit classes have hovered around fiftieth or worse.

Explain why our recruits over the past five or six years have resulted in our team ranked well above FSU's and UM's this year.

One answer is JL and his staff knows talent, signs them, and makes the most of their potential.

Another is that the recruit ratings leave a lot to be desired.

Think your nailed it on both  8-)

That's why when people laugh about a 3 star recruit of ours, I just smile back.

very subjective but if you keep landing 5 star recruits odds are you will have some mighty fine players on your team.

Ratings are never 100% accurate as you can never tell how a player will react to being a small fish in a bigger pond.  Also work ethic and coaching at the college level play a huge role in how a player develops.  Most of these kids with great ratings are just men among boys on the high school field and dont have to work as hard as they will have to at the college level to maintain their success. Also because these are just young men you never know how much they will continue to grow and develop physically over the course of their career.  Recruiting ratings are important but its better to recruit a 3 star that fits a teams system/scheme than a 4 star that you may have touble finding a good spot for.

yup im sure if you look at the top 25 classes over the past few years and compare them to the polls they are very similar, of course with some exceptions that are a result of good scouting and developing and of course the opposite holds true there too.

That's true dabull80 and am sure that USF will be landing these guys in the future along with the "big boys" ... but I am amazed with our staff's recruiting over the years.

Look at Selvie ... don't know the entire situation, but BULLieve he played Center his entire HS career ... and obviously the coaches saw something in this kid while being a "no star" 6' 4" 225 lb HS Center that made them want him.

That's why I don't pay too much attention to these new recruits weights.

And unfortunately, some don't develope that work ethic to be better players and get beat out by guys that work harder to be better.

Yup and this why intangables are just as important than measurables.

I agree they are overrated as to individual players.  However, the odds of having a good team are better the higher a class is ranked.  Although you can make some good finds who are 2 star players (Selvie, Robinson, etc.) Championship teams and competitors are typically made up of more highly rated players.

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.
