They can do this because the Big 10 season is over and their confident that both OSU and Michigan will get BCS games.

I know it's impossible, but how funny would it be if Michigan did not get a BCS invite . . . again, I know it won't happen, but that would be awesome.  Maybe all the coaches from other conferences can do what Houston Nutt did to WVU last year and "forget" them on their last ballot

Looks like the Motor City Bowl is not going to be filled by the BIG 10 which should open up a slot for the BIG EAST. Maybe Pitt or Cincy depending on how things wind down.

Again, I don't think it's right to give out bowl bids before the season is over. I think it takes away from the season since some teams know they are going to a bowl no matter what, while others know that no matter what they do they can't get the bowl.

Outrunner, the Big 10 season is over, none of their teams have eanymore games. Further, it is fairly obvious that both Michigan and OSU will be automatic qualifiers for the BCS. The bowls extended bids to allow all those teams' fans to start planning.

No sense in the delay at this point.

It was said yesterday, that if the SEC doesn't get 2 teams into the BCS, South Carolina will probably be the MCB's selection.

Doesn't the Outback Bowl almost exclusively pick a team from the SEC East? The Auburn pick seems strange to me...

From what I can tell, the SEC has been affiliated with the Outback Bowl since the 1996 bowl game and from 1996-present the bowl has selected an SEC West team twice (Auburn 1996 and Alabama 1997)
