I propose a new Big East football lineup

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I propose a new Big East football lineup that would give the conference two divisions and a Conference Championship game to be played in December. All of the teams would still be in the East and the Championship game would help with bowl preparations lag time.

Each team would play all of their Division teams and only 2 others from the other division on a rotating basis each year. This would give you 7 conference games.

I further propose that we get rid of the Notre Dame connections all together. They benefit us little to none and take away a bowl game. This season they do not even play a single Big East team. Notre Dame plays 4 Big Ten teams, 3 from the PAC 10, the 3 Service Academies and 2 teams from the lowly ACC. Let them join the Big Ten.

As for basketball we could have 4 divisions with 5 teams each with the top 4 from each division playing in a 16 team BE tournament.

The following is how I propose we do the football breakdown along with their present stadium capacities:

Southern Division

Central Florida 45,000

East Carolina 43,000

Louisville

Memphis 62,380

South Florida

Southern Mississippi 33,000

or Tulane 76,675

Northern Division

Cincinnati

Connecticut

Pittsburgh

Rutgers

Syracuse

West Virginia

Southern Mississippi only seats 33,000 at the present time. They have a good and a tradition rich football program. I am sure they would be more than willing to expand to meet our standards.

Central Florida is building a brand new and modern stadium that will open next season. East carolina has nice facilities and Memphis has the Liberty Bowl to play in. Of course, Tulane has the Super Dome should Southern Miss not come in.

No, no, and no

ECU brings nothing

UCF brings location and market, but nothing to improve the Big East sports-wise.

Memphis, USM, Tulane stretch the geographical boundaries too far.

USF and UL would own the Southern Division.

I still don't like the idea... plus, it won't work... and we all know why (BE TV contract)

I concur, bad idea. Perhaps in the future the BE will expand, as for now the BE is doing well.
