UConn Tanzanian freshman center ruled eligible

STORRS, Conn. -- Connecticut freshman center Hasheem Thabeet has been declared eligible by the NCAA to play this season, the school announced Wednesday.

Thabeet, a 7-3 center for UConn, was deemed eligible Wednesday to play during the upcoming season.Thabeet, a 7-foot-3 center from Tanzania, had been seeking a ruling from the NCAA on whether he met some core curriculum requirements.

The case was complex because Thabeet was educated in both Tanzania and in the United States. He attended Cyprus Community Christian School in Houston last year.

Thabeet is expected to be UConn's starting center.

Coach Jim Calhoun was notified Tuesday evening that Thabeet has been declared eligible, UConn spokesman Kyle Muncy said.

He already has completed six hours worth of courses at the university and is enrolled in five others, Calhoun said earlier this month.

Sounds like he may be too tall.  Grothe may not be able to see over him when trying to audible.

watch out for aj price on uconn this year.  missed 1st year due to brain hemorage and 2nd year due to stealing laptops.  he grew up a few streets away from me and i seen him play when he was very young.  You can tell he was going to be an nba player one day.

Dude....the guy survives a brain hemorage (spelling?) and how does he thank the good Lord in heaven for giving him another shot at life?  STEALING LAPTOPS?!?!?!?!  The first part makes you want to root for the guy, the second.........does not.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
