Don't fool yourself. The original Prez kept the idea under wraps (under foot). And it is the best thing to happen to this university. It has generated so much more school pride than any Nobel prize could ever. That might be sad but its true. Just imagine what 20K alumni would be doing in the fall w/o USF football. It makes me shudder.

WoolyBully Posted October 6, 2006 Group: Bull Backers Topic Count: 195 Content Count: 6,766 Reputation: 859 Days Won: 3 Joined: 08/01/2000 Share Posted October 6, 2006 Any special memories of the 1996 season that our team only practiced ? Nope...I knew that it was a 'project' at USF, but I didn't pay attention to it Who was at the first scrimmage Sept. 25th ? didn't go Were practices open ?  don't know Was it your last season with another team that is now your 2nd favorite team ? Pretty much. I was a fan of San Jose State ('cause I lived there) and pretty muchkept up with NCSU & UNC, but wasn't really a "fan". When we moved to Florida,I became a huge FSU fan since all of my wife's friends were Gators.  I still followthe NC boys, and catch the 'big three' when I can, but interestingly, my disdainfor UF has faded as has my enthusiasm for FSU. Right now, and probably untilthey lay the sod o'er me, it's a Bull thang. Were you a student at the time ? Nope, student from '92-'94. Went to a few basketball games during that time, but wasn't "into" USF. By that I mean, college was a ticket to be punched, justanother day at the office, get through - get the degree - and get back into the wonderful world of work. The walk through at Tampa Stadium to pick your tix. Yep...I remember that. I started out with two tickets, then bumped up to fourand have stayed at that level ever since.  I remember the wife and I havinga heated discussion about the need to get down there on time. My line of thinking being closer to the front of the line, hers being BFD. As is often thecase, I won. So there. So far, I've only missed one home game...our win overSouthern Miss. I was in the hospital, and tried to connive the wife into gettingme out so I could at least catch one half. No dice. Kinda a dead day and want to hear some thoughts/stories . . .Kind of interesting to look back on ten years. The seasons seem to rip by now, withthe interval between seasons getting longer and longer. What I like most of all ismeeting all of the Bulls fans on here and spending time with the BullBackers. We've hadsome pretty good road trips, and hope to have many more as the years go by.Just wonder what the 20th year will be like...
GetAHobby Posted October 6, 2006 Group: Member Topic Count: 19 Content Count: 698 Reputation: 0 Days Won: 0 Joined: 10/15/2005 Share Posted October 6, 2006 GetAHobby, I know you had a bad experience at the last game, but we (the older alumni) are really excited about the football-student generation graduating and buying season tickets.  The USF games will be the event of the weekend during football season in Tampa for years to come!I feel that to be the case 100%. I can't wait for more and more of these body painters to graduate and move into the season ticket sections...Its hard right now making the transition from sitting with the Student Section crazies, to sitting with the layed back non-football donors. They are never going to get rid of me, in fact I hope I drive all the tools that sit on thier hands out to make room for new alum and future alum. I made it to 3 of the home games that season. The student section was absolutely dismal, we would get yelled at by fellow students (mostly "sorrorstitutes" there for social hour) just for standing up and yelling >! That's not the college football atmosphere I was used to. The growth of the student following has been OUTSTANDING over the last 5-6 years! It's still a shock to see that entire endzone full of Crazy Kids! Now I sit in a "grown-up" section across the stadium. Not nearly as rowdy, but still great fun! ;D
