Am i the only one here, and no its not because they both wear the #8.  Both are good scramblers but not of the Vick/Cunningham calibure, both spread the ball around offensivley, Grothe is very very poised and calm under pressure much like Young, Young is listed at 6' 2" but is actually closer to 6' /6' 1", and both have a very good football IQ.  So am i alone on this?

Edit: And no im not saying Grothe will be as good as Young in college or even the pros (if he makes it) im just saying he is the same style of QB

The only thing I know is that he can make plays, has poise beyond his years, and he is a huge leader.

It's going to be great watching him mature. Once we have a running game behind him watch out.

SL,

I was talking with my dad and we both thought that same thing.

If he ends up even a fraction as good as Young... he's going to be incredible.

I love the amount of poise out of a freshman.

Very impressive! especially for a freshman.  I just worry that he will get injuered, with all of that scrambling.  Not exactly the build of a Ben Rothlisberger.

Our lack of a running game is going to kill this kid. 22 carries and 33 throws is crazy.

I would agree.... I commented about that during the McNeese game.

When he has time in the pocket, he can be as good as any QB... but the line had some problems today.

He also still seems to be a bit too quick to pull the ball down and run with it - but that might have been the defensive pressure rather than MG.  The interception was a forced pass that was a bit hight -- and he should have just thrown it away.

All in all, I am very happy with MG's performance today.  He has the natural leadership skills that USF has needed for a long time.  These next three+ years are going to be a lot of fun.

I started thinking this after the MSU game.  The only difference is Blackwell may have had better wheels.  I thought on a few of Matt's good runs 2day that MB woulda took it to the house.  Matt may be a bit better in the pocket as a freshman compared to when MB was a frosh though.  I know one thing, Matt was the difference today.  He out gunned Moffet.
