DARIN ERSTAD punted for Nebraska's national championship team, and he and his wife donated $1 million toward the improvement of Memorial Stadium. I asked him if he owns a Corncob hat, and he said, "I've asked for one at Christmas but have never gotten one."

Unfortunately, baseball players often get tagged with labels and Gload has been labeled as a pinch-hitter type -- even though he has hit very well EVERY TIME he's seen even slightly extended playing time in the majors.

Therefore, it's unlikely that he'll ever get a shot at big money. Hope I'm wrong...

Gload hasn't sniffed the money Erstad made through his years in MLB.  C'mon Smazza you're better than that, aren't you?

Are you for real smazza?  Come on man...Gload is making good money compared to most of us but lets not forget that a major league baseball players avg carear is less than 3 years.  He is making league minimum and would be hard for him to lock up a large major league deal being a platoon guy.

If you want to look at major league salaries...check out USAToday sports online.  They have all salaries listed.  For example...Erstad has made 8.75MM, 8.25MM, and 7.75 MM in the past 2 years and over 44.67MM in his 10 year major league carear.

Ross has made 350K, 335K, and 302K in his 3 year carear.

Gload is a pure hitter and if given the chance I'm sure he would hit .300 each year.  But he's not going to hit 20 hrs and drive in 100 RBI's and that is what this game has unfortunatley turned into.

I'm sure Ross and his wife have given as much as they are capable of...just as each of us have I'm sure.

Be careful making suggestions you don't know.  Leavitt was quoted that Mitchell has agreed to help him financially with his new dining and nutritional annex to the Athletic Facility.  I know Anthony Henry has helped out a bit, and he's always around during the off-season.

I'd cut Reed a break, his contract wasn't that big and he's got to make the NFL for 7.5 years before he qualifies for a pension.  With his injury the deck is definitely stacked against him.
