Why not build a $40 million dollar building and use the other $6 million to feed HOT for the next 10 years?

BIG UPGRADES FOR USF: Generations of music students at the University of South Florida have had to put up with the glorified classroom that passes for a recital hall on the Tampa campus, not to mention the rest of the inadequate, overcrowded music facilities. That is set to change now that the Legislature and Gov. Jeb Bush have approved a budget for USF that leads to appropriations of about $46-million for a new music education building, scheduled to open in spring 2009.

"It will hold teaching and practice studios, rehearsal space for instrumental and choral groups, lecture classrooms, offices and a recital hall with seating for 180 to 200," said Barton Lee, associate dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The building will be off Holly Drive northwest of the fine arts buildings.

The college also hopes to undertake a fundraising campaign to add a 1,200-seat concert hall, something that faculty members have pursued for years. "It has been forever, at least since I've been here, and I've been here since 1982," Lee said.

Well, it took some crazy politics... some of which I can't disclose... but lets just say Judy G got it done.

FYI:  The buildings are being built with PECO (Physical Education Capitol Outlay) funds... they can't use them once so ever to feed or put uniforms on the backs of the HOT.  

Needless to say, our school got a pretty good chuck of PECO and a few huge "gifts in kind" (ie: 30 or so mil for the Patel Center and 10 mil for Athletics(3 m)/Adcanced Med School(7 m)).

The 3 or so mil for athletics will cover the new football practice fields and the new softball stadium.

Jeb vetoed it last year because the money was not part of the official Legislative Budget Request from the Board of Governor's.  This year, it was.  You can also thank State Senator Victor Crist -- USF Class of '83 -- for the appropriation.

It wasn't that crazy.  The BOG included it in their LBR, that helped to get it done.

The proper word is "whatsoever" not "once so ever" ... just trying to help with your edyoukayshun - so you don't sound so much like a UCF student
