Iowa called Woolard about AD job

June's supposed to be the slow month, right?

First, so nobody gets too excited, Iowa is announcing its new athletic director today at 5 p.m. ET, and it's not Doug Woolard.

That said, the search firm running the hiring process for Iowa called Woolard this month, but USF's athletic director said he's happy with the Bulls.

"It's a compliment, but I told them I wasn't interested," Woolard said, calling from a golf cart on the back nine at Lone Palm in Lakeland, where USF's "Around the Horns" booster tour had a stop Friday.

Woolard celebrated his two-year anniversary as USF athletic director last week, and he's not the only Florida administrator Iowa was interested in. Florida Atlantic athletic director Craig Angelos, himself only three years on the job, interviewed with Iowa officials last week, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Yes, Woolard did a good job... a good job

Quote: "But I did a good job... a good job"

Episode: "Homer at the Bat" (2/20/92)

Context: Mr. Burns is upbraiding the hypnotist that he hired for his softball team for making Roger Clemens think he's a chicken. The hypnotist pulls out his watch and utters this quote to convince Mr. Burns that he actually did a good job.

Real-Life uses: Whenever you mess up, you can mimic the hypnotist's soothing voice to try and cover up your mistake.

I do believe he is doing a spectacular job, really a spectacular job.

Yeah, you're right smazza...Woolard didnt lead us to the Big East. Woolard wasnt involved in the Sundome Renovations. He didnt secure the funds for that new track facility. I'm sure he had nothing to do with that tiny donation for the softball facility and football practice fields. He didnt retain that football coach of ours who has been courted by programs all over the country. Woolard is such a chump.

iowa didnt offer him the job

Because DW told them he wasn't interested.

only after EC had a terrible year did woolard do something

Because he was being fiscally responsible by waiting until the imminent end of EC's contract and allowing a long-time coach to resign rather than firing him.

woolard has done little

A very lonely opinion.

he should have done something with basketball program.

he has made RMC a lame duck

Yeah, we would have won the Big East had he fired CRM.   ::)

yeah great job doug

That's the national consensus.  Agreed.

Woolard has done a tremendous job in elevating our program.  Does more need to be done?  Absolutely!  Does Woolard need help?  Absolutely!  So, if you want to complain about it, feel free to write a f*cking check with your opinion.  That way, your opinion will actually have some relevance, instead of being the whining of some a-hole.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
