The Meineke Car Care Bowl has reached a contract extension with the Big East through 2009 and has moved ahead in the conference's selection order, bowl executive director Will Webb announced.

In the past, the Meineke has had the No. 4 selection from the Big East, but it will now choose third. The bowl has matched Big East teams with ACC opponents the past four years, and will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30 at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium, with ESPN televising.

Tickets will go on sale Aug. 1.

Nice.  I enjoyed Charlotte and the bowl.  Too bad we'll be going higher than 3rd...   :o

good that they moved the kickoff to 1pm too, 11am start times are harsh...  especially when it was on new year's eve!

well, it was interesting bringing in the new year when you had been drinking since 9am

It's probably just moved back a day for this year--no bowls on Sundays (NFL).

What's the new order?  BCS, Gator/Sun,Meineke, Birmingham, Toronto, Houston, Detroit?

That sounds about right... although I would think Birmingham and Toronto would work with the league (for example if U Conn is 4th and Cincy is 5th - it might make more sense to send Cincy to Birmingham and U Conn to Toronto - this is the same reason why I think USF would never play in Toronto if we are eligible and in 4th - 6th place).

1 BCS

2 Gator/Sun

3 Meineke

4/5/6 Birmingham, Toronto, Houston*

7 Motor City **

* = If the Houston Bowl is able to be certified for next year.  That is not a given.

** = The Motor City Bowl was a conditional pick - if no Big Ten team is available and the Big East has a seven-win team.

Just my two cents here.

Go to the Sun Bowl site and vote for the Big East in the poll in the lower left corner.

We've got a long way to go --- STAMPEDE !!!
