Here are quotes from when Coker took over at Miami...

http://espn.go.com/abcsports/bcs/columns/bowden_terry/larrycokerqanda.html

The quarterback hire was a huge hire. We have an excellent quarterback here, and, as you know, that player needs to play well if you are going to have a chance to be successful. We are very fortunate because I got calls from Steve Walsh, Craig Erickson and Gino Torretta recommending Dan Werner. Dan had at one time been at Auburn. They raved about him, said I had to hire this guy. I brought Dan in. We talked about salary, and I said I can pay you more than that to come to Miami. He said, "Coach, you don't have to pay me." He had a job. It wasn't like he was hungry. He has brought a lot to the table. At his last job, he was the offensive coordinator at Murray (State). They had a great offensive plan there. He brings a lot to us.

I disagree, Steve.  Under Leavitt, the defense has been frigging incredible year in and year out.  Why pull a Tony Dungy on Leavitt?

Fire Rod "I'm a moron and call a draw on 3rd and 11" Smith and get someone who can make the offense click.  The defense is just fine.

Dungy was fired because he couldn't put together an offense to complement that awesome defense .... I wouldn't want to see that happen with Leavitt but SOMETHING needs to be done.

That SOMETHING starts with a change at OC.  Let's see some new blood come in and start our offense over from scratch.  If that doesn't help, then I'll be ready to start calling for a replacement for Leavitt.

Smazza, I've never been happy with Rod Smith at OC.  The difference between you and me is that I understood why he ended up in the position and I was willing to give him a chance.  His chance should be over, and the reason for him getting the position has passed.  Time for a replacement.

Great Assessment USFMikeB, I concur, Rod Smith has had his shot and it didn't work out, USF must make a change to get to the next level.

I hope we fire smith and hire werner.

This would be great press, plus Werner would be pissed and help us steal recruits from Miami.

However I doubt Smith will be fired, and I fear he will ruin Hill/Grothe.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
