Just on a whim I checked cfn.com's bowl projections and to my surprise saw this...

POINSETTIA BOWL - San Diego, California

December 22, 2005  ESPN2

Qualcomm Stadium 70,000

MWC vs. At-large

CFN Projection: Wyoming vs. South Florida

also considered: TCU, New Mexico, Clemson, Maryland, NC State, Kansas, Kansas State, Northern Illinois, Bowling Green

Never heard of this bowl, but hey, at least we're getting some ink.

San Diego?  Does the Outback Bowl have a Big East tie in?  ;D

No it's SEC v. Big 10

It's a brand new bowl... taking the place of the Emerald Bowl.

I guess CFN thinks that there will be at least 4 other Big East teams that are bowl eligible.

I don't care what the bowl is. I just want us to be in one. And there are a hell of alot worse places to go than San Diego.

Remember, Notre Dame can take the Gator Bowl slot in place of a Big East team. Which will happen, unless they get into a BCS bowl or fail to qualify at all.

That leaves only three bowl openings for Big East teams: The BCS bid, Charlotte, and Phoenix.

ND will only take the Gator if the BCS doesn't come calling.  Judging from how they've played so far, an 8-3 Irish team will land in Dallas or Tempe.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
