Our own coaching is more concerning than Tulane, Cincy, or Temple though. There were two instances in the red zone......3rd & goal from the 4, and about 3rd & 8 from near the 10 yard line I believe....we ran dive plays on both occasions. We appeared to be playing for the FG in a game where we were behind and couldn't stop their offense. Seriously, what exactly is the thought process here? There was obviously a gigantic difference in the creativity of the offenses today. That felt like a Skip Holtz move. Throw the **** ball into the endzone. The 4th & 7 play where we appeared to have King bottled up before he broke loose and scored obviously took the air out of the team. Every bit as deflating as the 4th & 24 last year IMO. We get a stop there, it probably is an entirely different game. I knew our defense was going to have problems, but that was ridiculous. I'm too lazy to do the research, but numbers-wise, this defense can't be much better than the Raymond Woodie led defense in 2016. A little disappointing considering our Head Coach supposedly specializes in defense. Charlie has now faced 4 FBS teams with winning records since he's been here (Temple 2017, Houston 2017, UCF 2017, and Houston 2018). He's 1-3 against that group. This appears to be in-part a coaching problem IMO. We've had one decent showing against GT. Every other game has been close wins against garbage teams. Constant problem with penalties. Not sure how anybody can be "sold" on him at this point. Will be interesting to see how he does against OK....not great...opposition in the next three games before Black Friday. No more UConns on our schedule...
