Diarra Transfer To Charleston

Konimba Diarra  By Dave Telep National Recruiting Director

Date: Jun 21, 2005

This spring, Konimba Diarra left South Florida. Now, the native of Mali has a new home. He’ll play for the College of Charleston.

The frontline at the College of Charleston just got a little bigger. Konimba Diarra, a 6-foot-10 center out of Mali via South Florida, is transferring to play for Tom Herrion’s Cougars.

“We had about a list of 8 schools,†Chris Phillips, Diarra’s AAU coach. “He visited two schools unofficially – Manhattan and Fairfield – and he visited College of Charleston and Florida Atlantic officially.â€Â

Diarra then narrowed his list further and came up with the College of Charleston. In the end, according to Phillips, the Cougars had the best style for his game.

â€ÂHe saw the type of offense that they ran and thought it would be good for his game.â€Â

Diarra is a solid, strong post up guy who should be one of the strongest rebounders in the Southern Conference. He’ll sit out this season and have two years remaining.

Since he's from Mali, let me be the first to say "kambufo", Konimba.

Best of luck!

Yet another player reading Mac's writing on the wall.

And that writing says "I'm bringing in players to challenge your butt, get ready".... Apparently Konimba wasn't. Best of luck to him.

Wasn't Diarra the last recruit left of He-who-shall-go-nameless?

If you ever got a chance to talk with Konimba he is a funny guy and extreamly intellegent. I had a few classes with him and he always yelled at me for missing a class here and there. It was funny. In pratice coach mac would always mess with him while he was doing drills. He would announce him like he was in a came. "Starting at center from Mali West Africa ... Koooooonimba!!!!!!!!! He always knew how to have a good time.  Just some info youo normally don't hear ...

Diarra just wanted more playing time and probably wasn't going to get it here.  I think he will do very well at College of Charleston.
