Let's get to what really worries us: THE DEFENSE

First of all, I can't help but think that if Tom Allen had been around last year, the D would have been fine.

So, I don't think it was personnel problem.

Here are my current concerns. Texas wasn't all that great at defense. I watched some of their games and that defense didn't impress me.

Yes, that's one of Coach Strong's strengths, but he's handling the defense over to an assistant... It's a revamped defense with a lot of new schemes and new coaches. 

Right now, our defense is a complete mystery to me.

Strong isn't handing the defense over to anyone. The offense is Coach Gilberts responsibility. 

The defense wasn't great, but there's some teams that can flat out score in the Big 12. Plus they were fairly young. 

There aren't many truly dominant defenses in college football. You can probably count them on 1 hand. The difference in being good enough and not good enough can come down to 10 points a game.

Texas was 93rd in Total Defense last season, while USF was 117th.  As far as points allowed, we gave up 31...Texas gave up 31.5 per game.  Not good, we need our defense to be in the 50s or 60s for Total D and we need to shave a TD off that  points average.  If we're giving up an average of  25/26 points per game we should be in very good shape.
