pitt game in 2001

Gee let me think really hard.....

2002 - USF played that season

2003 - I believe they had a football team that year too

2004 - D@mn, they played that year too.

So Smazza, to summarize, USF continued to play football all three years.

Yeah, and we actually wen't 20-13 during that period with wins over 7 bowl opponents while also playing Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, South Carolina, and Pittsburgh again.

Let's not forget beating a Top 25 team (BGSU).  One subpar season does not erase 6 over achieving seasons.  See Hayn Fry's & Joe Paterno's careers.

See...here's what I don't get.

Beating Pitt was an upset. It didn't - for lack of better phraseology - really prove anything.  Why does this continue to get trotted out as some sort of watershed moment in USF football? Does the win at Pitt magically cancel out the losses, that same season, to Northern Illinois,  Memphis and the 52-21 waxing by Utah?

It all goes back to blind pigs and the occassional acorn.

Good point, Wooly...

Not to turn this into a UCF bashing thread, but the same question could be asked: what happened to UCF football since beating Alabama??

USF caught Pitt flat-footed... they obviously underestimated the Bulls, and USF was able to take advantage of some Pitt turnovers to build momentum...

Don't get me wrong, I was proud to be a USF alumn that day... it was fun to watch Pitt lose their first ever game in their new stadium... it was fun to hear about the win when Pitt played Miami (gotta love Lee Corso)...

But it really was more of the exception than the rule...

In 2002 USF was rated #19 by the BCS computers and #23 in the final BCS polll, so we were BETTER that year.

We all know we haven't had a decent QB since Blackwell left and without one you won't win many football games. That has been our primary problem.
