I have read that Carlton Hill, Matt Grothe and others will be in the first week of June.  Can the Strength Coach work out with the guys, and what are the rules regarding contact by the JL and the staff?  Hopefully the boys will be busting some ass this summer in preparation for the fall.

I've been thinking the same thing.  I'm sure the guys are utilizing the new facilities and working out hard.  We need to be in great shape in order to match-up with the increased competition on our schedule.  Hopefully, we won't cramp-up like we did against 'Bama.

I periodically swing through the campus and have occasionally seen some guys out in the morning doing sprints ...

actually, the Bama' game wasn't from underconditioning, it was from over-conditioning.

Leavitt will tell you straight up that one of his regrets was how hard he worked his boys in practices before that game.  They didn't recoup their bodies enough and thus the limited body fat, and nutrients forced the kids to start cramping.  Our boys were in amazing shape, just over-worked, and under-rested.

The team can get together in the off-season for 'volunteer' workouts.  Usually there's a scheduled sessions with the S&C Trainers, and they also work with coaches on speed and endurance during those sessions.  No coaches are permitted to coach or partake in the workouts. ;)

On the side players are encouraged to work on individual drills, speed, and endurance exercises.  Particularly the individual football drills, of course those are to be done unsupervised without a coach in sight... ;D

im gonna call shannigans on that... doubtful they had practice that friday before the game, so they had thurs night, friday and saturday morning for their bodies to recover and that is plent of time from personal experience

if you are a top athlete, you can be ready to go in 24 hours tops.....

That's what Leavitt said, and you guys can take it however you wish.

FYI, after the type of fall workouts they go through, it takes more like a week, not 24 hours.  Sure they were rocouped enough to play, but not to go four effective quarters -especially how shallow our depth was.

During fall workouts some players lose as many as 10-20lbs, and usually they spend the week before the first game recouping, and adding nutrients.

thats ridiculous.... no matter how hard a workout is if you are a top athlete, which they are supposed to be, you can recover from the worst in 3-4 days max!  And if the coaches were kicking their asses that much that close to a game, that is their own fault.

If players are losing 10-20 pounds in fall practices, they are not coming in to camp in shape.  If you are in good shape already, the only players that should be lsoing more than maybe 5 pounds would be linemen.

Guest Full Of Bull

On the contrary, players spend the entire summer conditioning and working out to build there bodys for maximum output. These summer runnings are notorious for being grueling wich happen 4 times a week. Then You hop into 2 a days where your not allowed the same amount of weight room time you had in the summer because of practices and meetings. This will result in muscle loss. There is also less time for your body to recover from conditioning with the practices every single day for up to three weeks straight. Your going to be a little drained no matter what you do. Players have been known to drop 5 pounds in a single practice. Moslty fluids however, but they cant replenish all that weight with fluids before the next practice. With regards to Alabama, my only comment was that at legion field we were on the side that had no hint of shade. Being in the sun all day in that kind of heat after 3 months of grueling workouts, lets see how you perform
