Between Mike Hobbie and Mike Canales, it may be fairly asked: "have we EVER had an OC?"

so who are they interviewing?

Well, Reggie Brooks supposedly interviewed for a coaching position. So, he figures to be our new RB Coach and Franks would then shift to OC.

I always like to ask the question how one year a man is a hero, and the next a goat?  Could it coincidentally be that Hobbie's name started to get drug through the mud once we learned that Banks had little heart, or confidence, and PJ was as raw as a fat lady's thighs after walking a marathon.

You say Canales sucked.  I tend to agree that after his sophomore year it was apparent that Chico didn't do much with MB, and in fact that season we won one game exclusively on MB's legs- do you remember the rainy SWTexas game-all MB's legs.  Then in comes Hobbie, calls plays with a QB capable of handling the pressure and gameplan.  Some say it was all MB, then why do many of those same people think Canales was so bad when he had MB a year earlier?  Why did MB not make him look good?

Hobbie did a great job adapting the offense last year with Hall's emergence, and when it became painfully obvious that PJ wasn't the answer.  I have this sneaky suspicion that had he got a real QB in there much of these issues would be moot.

Oh, and we could go round, and round all day but Hobbie wasn't nearly as bad as many of you make him sound.  Also, his offense was Leavitt's choosing, so again, if there's a beef on that front then it's with Jim not Hobbie.

Sorry Bien, I meant to include a little smiley face with that comment, so is to indicate it was meant in jest. Yes, I agree that those guys had their upside.

State university employment policies.  I mentioned it a few weeks ago and some said your athletics is seperate and has it's own rules...which isn't true.  The position number and state classification was posted on your employment website and closed just about two weeks ago.  Committee members must work out a schedule, candidates are flown in (if needed...but usually a national search like this one will have several candidates from out of state).  The process sucks and is one reason why UCF changed it's athletics to a direct support organiztion that is seperate from the university.

That being said...you're not too far away from announcing your new coach.  Three to four weeks for a national search is quick.

If the hold up is because CJL doesnt think Franks is the best choice for the job, and we are having a difficult time finding a qualified candidate during the interview process, wouldnt we be better suited to just name Franks the interum OC and conduct a real search this coming off season.

There are always coaching moves during the offseason look at this past year all of the potential candidates we could have interviewed between the the coaching moves at ND, Florida, Utah, SC, just to name a few.  Unfortunately for whatever reason Hobbie didnt "resign" until after the spring game, so we were a few months behind the ball and a lot of the good candidates were scooped up by other teams, but this coming year i'm sure will be no exception.  There will be coaching moves and a lot of great candidates that we could look to fill our OC position.  So maybe going the interum OC may be the best way to go?

A more fair question is "when was the last time we had a halfway decent QB coach"?

After all, as bad as Julmiste and Banks were, their form and some of their quick reads were OFF.  And there is only one explanation for that...coaching.
