Cpl of things stand out in this case : 1st why would the American Athletic  Conference be listed in the lawsuit, Pitt nor the player ever played in our Conference.  Pitt is a member of the Atlantic Coast Confrence(ACC). They were members of the Big East prior to joining the ACC. ( so the BIG EAST SHOULD BE SUED).  Secondly  the article doesn't say what Pitt did or didn't do that put winning over the players health. Did he report the  symptoms, was he denied treatment?  Why didn't he seek treatment outside (private Doc instead)?  Too many  questions in this article that need to be answered.

He's just looking for the deepest pockets he can find right now.  Simple as that.

Typical Pitt and their students,  They screwed us when they were in the Big East with their behind the scenes deals and leading the charge to refuse the ESPN money, only to bolt to the ACC with ESPN's blessing   I have no love for Pitt or their players.

The league is the product of substantial turmoil in the original Big East Conference during the 2010–14 conference realignment period. It is one of two conferences to emerge from the all-sports Big East in 2013. While the other successor, which does not sponsor football, purchased the Big East Conference name, The American inherited the old Big East's structure and is that conference's legal successor. However, both conferences claim 1979 as their founding date, and the same history up to 2013.[5][6] The American is headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, and led by Commissioner Michael Aresco

Actually AAC makes more sense than ACC, if he's hoping to get money from a conference. But like GA said, he's just looking to get the bucks from as many sources as possible. Throw crap and see where it sticks. Pitiful character IMO.

Per the article he sued both the AAC and the ACC, NCAA and Pitt. He played at Pitt from 2004-2006. Also there were other lawsuits filed earlier including by another former Pitt player. Linked below.

From the Conredge Collins article:

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the southern district of Indiana, was one of 18 filed Monday and Tuesday by the Chicago-based law firm Edelson PC. The firm has filed 43 such suits since May on behalf of former college athletes.

The ex-players are seeking damages for ailments they claim are products of mishandled concussions they suffered during their respective college careers.

“This is a systematic issue that has permeated all parts of college football,” said Chris Dore, a partner and attorney with Edelson. “These players, for decades, have been put in a position where they are trained and told and directed to hit as hard as they can and are raised in a culture where being hurt is a weakness. Therefore, they are told and directed to get back up, get back out there and keep getting hit. The unfortunate part is the institutions — the NCAA, the conferences and the schools — had access to medical knowledge for decades that makes very clear this type of repeated head injury will have long-lasting effects that have started to manifest and be recognized for what they are. They’re truly debilitating.”

The latest and largest round of lawsuits involves former players from, among other schools, Alabama, Mississippi, Notre Dame, Maryland, UCLA, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Syracuse and Rutgers. A judge in a previous case ruled one large class-action concussion lawsuit could not be filed against the NCAA.

As for why the AAC? I assume that when the split with the basketball schools occurred that the AAC, as successor to BE football side, was required to take along any liabilities (and assets) related to the football side of the operation. That's an assumption but I do not think it's a crazy one.
